Contains the following types of materials: photo albums, loose photographs. Covers the following war: World War II (WWII). Contains photographs of the following military unit and organization: U.S. Army Ordnance Department. General description of the collection: The John W. Coffey photograh collection includes a few photos of the football team of the 1914-1917 era of the U.S. Military Academy and a formal portrait of Cadet Coffey. There are numerous long photos of the staff and groups of the student body of the Command and General Staff College (C & GSC), Class of 1937, along with photos of the volleyball team at C & GSC that class year. The remainding of the photos and the bulk of this holding are of Brigadier General John W. Coffey's tenure as Chief Ordnance Officer, Army Forces, Headquarters, Italy, mostly dating during 1945. These photos show office personnel, both soldiers and WACs (Women's Army Corps) and civilian employees. Numerous visits to ordnance installations, destroyed towns, captured railway guns, and other activities of the department constitute the subject matter of General Coffey's collection.
